Giving Back

Helping those less fortunate

SOUTH BEND –  Furniture designer and manufacturer SIXINCH North America and TJ Jorgenson of TJ21MEDIA Group partnered to make sandwiches and write inspirational notes for those in need.

“I’ve always wanted to get more involved in the community,” says Josh Taylor, Director of Marketing for SIXINCH. “Recently, I’ve watched my friend Ricky Smith of #RAKE do some amazing things in his community and when my 9-year old decided to raise money for St. Baldrick’s Foundation by shaving her head, I knew I had to step up my community service efforts.”

“Josh called me and said, I know it’s last minute but what can we do to get our girls together and help make a difference,” says TJ Jorgenson, Founding Partner for TJ21 Media Group. “I said whatever it is, I’m in – let’s do it!”

Each bag included a sandwich, crackers, and a personal note of encouragement. Once all of the bags were complete, the team drove around South Bend, Indiana, and distributed to those in need. “It was an amazing feeling to not only help others but to have my daughters by my side doing it! The world needs more people to care and it starts with showing our youth how to do that,” says Taylor.

At the end of the day, more than 70 bags were delivered throughout the area and multiple people’s lives were affected. “We can always do more, but doing something is the first step,” says Jorgenson.

About St. Baldrick’s Foundation

Worldwide, 300,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. And in the U.S., more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease—more than AIDS, asthma, cystic fibrosis, congenital anomalies, and diabetes combined. Less than 4% of the National Cancer Institute’s budget is solely dedicated to childhood cancer research. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation exists to change these realities. By working closely with leading pediatric oncologists, we determine the most promising research to fund and create funding priorities to make the greatest impact for children with cancer.

About #RAKE

Helping people has continued to be a passion for the founder, Ricky Smith, over the years. Raised in the Cleveland suburbs of Warrensville Heights, Ohio, Ricky possessed a need to excite the world with his off-kilter wit and eagerness to help the needy any way he could.  Through his routine charitable actions, Ricky possessed a sense of randomness. From giving random umbrellas on a rainy day to offering prime time sporting tickets to absolute strangers, Ricky wanted to create experiences for people while giving back.
